(New Haven, CT) October 26rd, 2017 – Compass Furnished Apartments, a premier provider of short-term fully furnished apartments throughout the Northeast, recently launched their newest property on Crown Street in New Haven, ARTlab Metro 280. Compass partnered with Artspace, a nonprofit organization that brings emerging artists to new audiences throughout New Haven, during their annual City Wide Open Studios event to host a VIP launch party.
Compass is proud to expand their portfolio with another luxury apartment building featuring the ARTlab by Compass experience. ARTlab is transforming each apartment into a local art gallery, bringing the local community and vibe of New Haven to their residents. These selected local and emerging artists each have a featured apartment to showcase their talents to a new audience.
With the support of Metro Star Properties, Compass celebrated the launch by allowing Artspace to curate a show, Private Parts, transforming their 1,815 square-foot apartment into a pop-up art gallery for the night with well known local artists Zeph Farmby, Mark Potter, Nina Yuen, Bek Anderson, Thomas Stavovy, Susan Clinard, Sabrina Marques, Katya Vetrov, and Leslie Carmin.
“We are honored to have had the opportunity to host the Artspace event and broaden our community involvement within the City of New Haven. It was a great opportunity for us to bring brand awareness and showcase our newest property to the local community in a unique way. Our hope is to expand our presence and offer our apartments to New Haven County businesses, universities and especially hospitals through our Compass Cares program,” said Joanna Alpert, Business Development.
Artspace and Compass both support the local community and strive to represent the best of the New Haven culture. By partnering with local business both Artspace and Compass received food and beverage donations from Soul de Cuba Cafe, BAR pizza, Mionetto Prosecco, and Stony Creek Brewery.
“City-Wide Open Studios annually unlocks the doors to hundreds of working spaces occupied by New Haven-based artists. These studios are sprinkled throughout the city in private homes, backyards, mixed-use industrial buildings and other unexpected sites. After you visit CWOS, you might walk around with a different attitude towards the city. We don’t always have the opportunity to see the diversity of what’s being made around us on a daily basis– from visual art to music, design, craft, fashion and the literary arts. Also surprising are the shear number of artists who juggle professional careers to sustain their practice.
Private Parts allowed visitors to experience the thrill of encountering art outside of the traditional white wall gallery setting. The show consisted of unorthodox installations, some wildly imaginative, set up in the apartment’s living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathrooms, laundry room and study. The apartment became a laboratory and stage set for animating new ways of thinking about, displaying, contextualizing and living with art. Artspace was thrilled to partner with Compass on this meaningful project, which encouraged exchange between working artists, local community stakeholders, and real estate professionals, and we look forward to future collaborations,” said Sarah Fritchey, Curator/Gallery Director of Artspace.
As new partners, Compass and Artspace plan on continuing their relationship and will be working together on Compass’ next ARTlab property to launch in Stamford, CT.
Artspace is a visionary and dynamic non-profit organization championing emerging artists and building new audiences for contemporary art. Our exhibition and commissioning programs (in the gallery, out of doors, and city-wide) encourage experimentation, discovery, and lively civic discourse, while fostering appreciation for the vital role that artists play in improving our community. Artspace’s mission is three-fold: to catalyze artistic activities; connect contemporary artists, audiences, and resources; and to enrich art experiences and activate art spaces.
