Intern Program Provides Real World ExperiencePosted: 09/06/2011
Below, Kaitlyn reflects on her experience as an intern at Compass.
Kaitlyn has been an integral part of driving home many company initiatives this summer regarding data integrity with Salesforce and enhancing our Company Website. Luckily, she will extend her internship part time into Fall, but check out a reflection from Kaitlyn on her summer experience below!
As my summer internship comes to a close, I am able to reflect upon my experience at Compass and see the impact the past twelve weeks have made on me. I am very thankful that I had this opportunity at Compass Furnished Apartments. During my internship I was exposed to not only daily tasks, but also various projects that challenged and expanded my computer and technology skills. These projects were designed to teach me about the company while also improving business practices. I was able to expand on existing projects and start projects on my own.
I am a Marketing major at Sacred Heart University. Compass helped me experiment with Marketing by providing me with projects that encouraged me to put myself in our clients shoes. Enhancing and customizing our company website with photos and descriptions gave me this opportunity. Website Marketing is an important aspect of marketing because it is where many businesses now gain their potential clients. Having a professional, informative, and easy to use website is key to bringing in customers. Learning how to customize this platform using WordPress allowed me to see first hand how it is to advertise for a company and catch people’s attention.
I am so grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait to be able to use the skills I have learned in the future. The classroom is a great way to understand the foundation of Marketing, but an internship is even more valuable because it gives you first-hand experience in that career. I was able to see how it is to work in a business environment and advertise a company’s product. I didn’t have to just get coffee or collect the mail, but I actually was able to work on projects and feel like I made a difference!
I encourage everyone to have an internship during college because it is both helpful and insightful. If it weren’t for this internship I would not know if I would actually like a career in Marketing. I would like to thank Compass for giving me the opportunity this summer to intern and be able to learn all of the skills that I did. I will hold on to them forever while they help push me into the right career path.
