The Corporate Housing Providers Association (CHPA) is comprised of professionals involved in the corporate housing industry and companies that supply providers with goods and services. Each year the CHPA hosts its annual conference, where it recognizes member companies who positively impact and serve the corporate housing industry.

Compass Furnished Apartments is excited to be attending this years annual conference in Houston, TX! This is not only a wonderful opportunity to network with the decision makers in Corporate Housing, but it is also a time to reflect on the critical issues in the corporate housing industry. Full of exhibits, speaker series, and even an opportunity to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, the CHPA Conference is a great program that provides a valuable experience for our company.

While attending the conference, our CEO, Chris Fleming and Sales Associate, Shannon Czaplicki, will be staying at Hilton Americas- Houston, the first hotel in the state of Texas to achieve Green Seal Certification!

When I got word of Chris and Shannon’s hotel accommodations, it got me thinking about how consumers feel about a company that does business right. I’ve read cases studies, articles, and research on consumers wanting to feel connected and aligned with the mission of the companys they do business with. Most of the time, these resources express that a person, when given the choice, is more likely to purchase a product from a company they can relate to and is aligned with a cause they connect with. By buying a certain product from a particular company, consumer indirectly help whatever cause that company is supporting. Consumers really have the power here, which makes consumer behavior very interesting for a company to explore.

Now, take Compass Furnished Apartments. Our mission is a simple one, to get people to think about how their everyday choices affect their environment. We do this through education and leading by example. When staying in a Compass Furnished Apartment our commitment to green becomes apparent. Whether it’s the 100% recycled Seventh Generation paper products we supply, the compact fluorescent light bulbs in our lamps, the detailed instructions on what and how to recycle, or the subtle reminders on what you can do to save energy and resources, it becomes quickly apparent that there are simple little things we can all do to engage in sustainability. We make it easy for our clients to reduce their carbon footprint, and through our client participation, we can work to reduce ours.

Chris and Shannon’s accommodations at the Hilton Americas’ Houston are practically as exciting as the CHPA Conference itself for our two Compass team members. Having similarities with the hotel industry, we understand many of the challenges that Hilton is facing with regards to sustainability. I am inspired by their progress, to know that they are taking their impact on the environment seriously. But I am also proud. I am proud because many of the measures that contributed to their Green Seal Certified Property, are indeed measures that we are taking here at Compass as well. Hilton is doing the right thing, and by staying with Hilton in Houston, Chris and Shannon are doing the right thing too!
