A healthy, clean and safe environment is important to us and to our guests.
As the leader in our industry in promoting green business practices and initiatives, we are constantly examining our business model and looking for ways in which we can lessen our impact on our environment. Our love of the environment was borne out of a lifetime of outdoor experiences and a connection with the world that surrounds us. From this grew a commitment to do everything we can in our personal and professional lives to lessen our collective impact on our environment.
Our mission is a simple one, to get people to think about how their everyday choices affect their environment. We do this through education and leading by example. When staying in a Compass furnished apartment our commitment to green becomes apparent. Whether it’s the 100% recycled Seventh Generation paper products we supply, the compact fluorescent light bulbs in our lamps, the detailed instructions on what and how to recycle, or the subtle reminders on what you can do to save energy and resources, it becomes quickly apparent that there are simple little things we can all do to engage in sustainability.
Another major challenge was engaging our partners, vendors and clients to embrace the benefits of environmental sustainability. Change is never easy, but when the pros outweigh the cons, change becomes simple to accept. All of our invoicing is done electronically and we encourage all our vendors to do the same, saving trees and paper. Working with our housekeeping staff we introduced biodegradable and nontoxic cleaning products, creating a safer environment for our cleaners and our guests. We have purchased two hybrid vehicles for our outside staff saving us thousands in fuel cost and drastically reducing our emissions.
All of these initiatives are a great start, but there is so much more we all can do. Our efforts were recognized in 2010 when we were awarded the Best Green Progress Award by our peers in the Corporate Housing Providers Association. As proud as we are of this achievement, it only made us want to do more, to make a bigger difference.
