Guiding to Give Back
Our COMPASSion movement showcases a variety of programs and organizations Compass works with to help bring ease to a hard time. Whether we aim to lessen our impact on the environment, support local organizations, or guide those in need we feel that it is our duty to give back. We want to, not only make changes on our end, but inspire others to do their part. Click below to view more about our different COMPASSion efforts.
As the leader in our industry in promoting green business practices and initiatives, we are constantly examining our business model and looking for ways in which we can lessen our impact on our environment. Our love of the environment was borne out of a lifetime of outdoor experiences and a connection with the world that surrounds us. From this grew a commitment to do everything we can in our personal and professional lives to lessen our collective impact on our environment.
Our mission is a simple one, to get people to think about how their everyday choices affect their environment. We do this through education and leading by example. When staying in a Compass furnished apartment our commitment to green becomes apparent by supplying:
– 100% recycled paper products
– recycling bins
– subtle reminders on what you can do to save energy and resources
In order to continue our efforts, we engage with our partners, vendors and clients to embrace the benefits of environmental sustainability. We have made the following changes in order to best practice sustainability:
– electronic invoicing
– biodegradable and nontoxic cleaning products
– hybrid vehicles for our outside staff
– 55 solar panels at our Massachusetts headquarters
Our efforts were recognized in 2010 and 2013 when we were awarded the Best Green Progress Award by our peers in the Corporate Housing Providers Association. As proud as we are of these achievements there is so much more we all can do in order to make a bigger difference.
So please join us in creating a healthy and environmentally sustainable world. Together we can truly make a difference.

Closer to Free Ride
Closer to Free Ride is an annual cycling event in New Haven, CT in which 100% of money raised goes towards research and patient care for Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center. Our Crew continues to grow our riding team and volunteers as well as donations year-by-year.
Fairfield Theatre Company
With our love of arts and culture, COMPASSion has recently partnered with the Fairfield Theatre Company. FTC is a nonprofit center for the arts and culture located in the heart of downtown Fairfield offering a broad spectrum of live entertainment. Bringing together musicians, artists, actors, writers and supporters together, FTC connects and enriches the community. Our partnership allows us to not only give our guests a taste of what’s it’s like to live like a local but also brings awareness to the arts and culture around them.
Cystic Fibrosis Lifestyle Foundation
The Cystic Fibrosis Lifestyle Foundation was created to empower and education people with Cystic Fibrosis on the connections between their lifestyle and health socially, emotionally, and psychologically. Through our COMPASSion program, we have continued to provide support to raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis. CFLF provides avenues toward healthy and active lifestyles through recreation by providing educational programs, events, fundraisers, and most importantly: a community. With the help of these resources, CFLF’s mission is “for people with CF to become aware of a lifestyle that achieves health, as opposed to avoiding illness”.
At Compass, we continue to update our furnishings and housewares to ensure our residents that they are receiving the best. Therefore, we work with Project Appalachia to donate our furniture and other household goods in hopes that our furnishings will be able to make someone’s life much easier. Project Appalachia is a volunteer charitable organization that provides humanitarian aid to those in need in the Southwest corner of Virginia that include medical supplies, food, clothing, milk, education in basic needs, household goods, drug abuse and alcohol rehabilitation, and women’s literacy.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that builds, renovates, and repairs houses all over the world for those in need of a safe place. With the help of donations and volunteers, Habitat is able to give these homes at an affordable price to the new owners. Compass is proud to say that we donate our furniture to Habitat for Humanity in hope of providing a warm and secure place to call home.
Christmas in the City
Each year, our Compass Crew volunteers their time with Christmas in the City in which they help distribute gifts to children who are in need of assistance during the holiday season in the greater Boston area. Not only do these families receive gifts of their choosing but they also get to experience “The Best Day of the Year” with one day full of carnival rides, clowns, petting zoos, and more! Find out more on how “Christmas in the City offers their support and guidance to families as they transition from shelters to their own homes”.
