We are thrilled to announce that our company has been honored with the prestigious Community Impact award from the Corporate Housing Providers Association (CHPA) for our Compass Cares Apartment Program. This recognition is a testament to our commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of patients and families traveling for medical reasons. Through our program, we provide comfortable accommodations, raise funds, sponsor events, and secure in-kind donations to support Compass Cares residents. Let’s delve into the details of this philanthropic initiative and how it has addressed a unique need in our community.
Addressing a Unique Need
The Compass Cares Apartment Program was born out of a pressing need to assist patients and families who often find themselves on long waitlists for housing accommodations near hospitals. Research shows that patients, especially children, heal faster and cope better when their loved ones are nearby. Recognizing this, we established the Compass Cares program to offer patients and families a quiet place to rest and heal during some of the most challenging times of their lives.
Collaboration and Partnerships
Compass Cares works with medical institutions, support groups, nonprofit organizations, property partners, and local businesses to connect families with appropriate housing and additional resources.
Partnerships involving organizations such as Boston Children’s Hospital and Hospitality Homes have helped Compass reach patients and caregivers who need accommodations during treatment. Property partners and donors also contribute apartments, welcome items, and other resources that help make each stay more supportive.
By working together, these organizations can expand the housing options available to families and provide alternatives when traditional host-home or hospital-affiliated accommodations are unavailable or unsuitable.
Marketing and Awareness
Raising awareness about our program has been crucial in reaching those who can benefit from it. Through targeted marketing campaigns, social media engagement, press releases, and email outreach, we have effectively communicated our mission and services to the community. By sharing testimonials and success stories from previous Compass Cares families, we have been able to illustrate the impact of the program and build trust within the community.
Enhancing the Guest Experience
We believe that housing is just one small aspect of a patient’s journey. To provide additional comfort and joy, we offer Compass Cares move-in kits that include unique items and a starter box of pasta and sauce. These move-in kits feature items donated through our Participating Partner Program, such as beautifully hand-crafted toys from local artisans and Love Your Melon beanies. We also furnish two donated apartments, creating a turn-key experience for our guests.
Measurable Impact
At the time the award was announced in 2024, Compass Cares had housed 778 families and provided more than 27,110 room nights of accommodation. Compass Furnished Apartments had also donated more than $100,000 in support of the Hale Family Center for Patients and Families at Boston Children’s Hospital. These contributions helped support services and resources for patients and families navigating hospital care.

How Compass Cares Continues Its Work
The Community Impact Award recognized a specific chapter in the Compass Cares story, but the work continued after 2024.
According to the CHPA 2025 Compassion Report, Compass provided 170 stays for patients and families traveling for medical care during 2025, delivering more than $25,000 in savings. Those efforts contributed to more than $1.5 million in total savings provided through Compass Cares over the life of the program.
Compass Cares also continues to support families through nonprofit partnerships, employee-led giving, sustainability initiatives, and discounted or complimentary furnished accommodations.
